Photography: National Geographic hosts annual competitions to nurture young and professional photographers. 2017 Nature photography winners have been announced and the grand prize winner was the picture of an orangutan in the river which was taken by Indian photographer Jayaprakash Joghee Bojan. He received $7500 as winning cash prize and tons of recognition in the photography community. Participants submitted entries under four categories : Wildlife, Landscapes, Aerials, and Underwater. There were more than 11,000 entries for this photography contest.

To capture this image, photographer Jayaprakash had to take more than 30 to 40 pictures in differnt frames and angles. According to Jayaprakash,"I decided to get into the river to get some unique angles and perspective," he said. "It was initially a bit scared so it hid behind the tree but I stood behind another tree. This image that won the award was taken when it was checking to see if I was still there." The winning photograph was taken in the Singapore Zoo.
