Francis Newton Souza(1924 -2002) is one of the rare artists, where you either end being taken aback by his paintings or fall in love with it totally. Francis Newton Souza is the founder of India’s Progressive Art Movement. Francis Newton Souza famously said, "Renaissance painters painted men and women making them look like angels. I paint for angels to show them what men and women really look like." His paintings portray a strange sense of violence and each of his strokes are different. He is an Indian born artist, who hailed from Goa. As a young student he was expelled from school and later on expelled from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai. Even though his own country rejected his art, he is an international accolade. Francis Newton Souza was born in Goa, 1924 and he was a Roman Catholic. His views with the churches always clashed and his art is a culmination of the miseries of the Indian women and the church. His paintings are the most sought after in the art industry and most times his paintings are the most expensive during Sotheby's auctions.
