The beneficial life of a consumer electronic product is relatively short and decreasing as there is vast changes in the equipment features and abilities. This leads to a large waste stream of obsolete electronic equipment, electronic waste (e-waste). The conventional method of disposing the e-waste has lot of disadvantages both on economical and environmental grounds. So we need to think of new methods of e-waste management like recycling. Comparatively new method of electronic recycling is yet to have a solid infrastructure in place. A more challenging aspect of e-waste recycling is creating awareness among the public to practice it. This initiative is done by Dell which run the largest global recycling program over 80 countries.
Photographer Von Wong has decided to take up the challenge of creating awareness among the people to do recycling instead of trash using his photography skills. He acquired 4100 pounds of e-waste from dell for the photos. Around 50 volunteers spent 10 days going through the e-waste,sorting them into groups of laptops, circuit boards, and keyboards. It also took 8 hours to do the hair, makeup, and bodypaint for the model. Von Wong hopefully believes that these photographs will reach the people and create the responsibility of constructive recycling of e-waste. The resulting surreal portraits of e-waste is presented here for you to explore.
