On mark of the comencement of the National Hispanic Heritage Month, which began on September 15, Google has launched the largest digital archive of U S Latino art, culture and history. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The heritage started year back in 1968 and september 15 is chosen as a mark of the anniversary of Independence of Latin American countries.
Google has collaborated with up to 50 organisations nationwide to put together the digital collection of U S Latino art, culture and history which is ever curated online. The project took more than a year to complete with many people to help digitalise the 2500 new artworks and curate 69 new exhibits. It brings out the history and culture from 1500s to present times.
In previous years Google featured several historic latino figures including Lucha Libre and Peruvian singer Yma Sumac as Google Doodles. The frontman of legendary Argentine rock band Soda Stereo Late Gustavo Cerati was also featured. This year spotlight is been focused on Latino culture and art.
