The Shigir Idol which was found in a peat bog by gold miners in 1890 is a relic known to be the oldest wooden sculpture that dates back to 12,500 years.  The human figures with eerie face scattered among the geometric patterns like zigzags, chevrons and herringbones are the eight human faces with slashes for eyes.  The head is shaped like an inverted teardrop with an open mouth.  In 2018 scientists published the age of the sculpture about 11,500 years but a team reanalysed the radiocarbon dates and has come to a conclusion that it dates back to 12,500 years which is older than the great pyramids of Giza.  The team assumes the use of wax and wood pigments should have been the reason for the wrong predictions earlier.  The art found on the sculpture also supports the recent finding as to the geometric motifs, simple lines, zigzag-ornaments are commonly found in the late Palaeolithic and early Mesolithic period which existed 12,100 years ago.  The Shigir Idol is now displayed at the Sverdlovsk Regional Museum in Yekaterinburg, Russia
